If you are going to get married in Ukraine, the Consular Office would advise you to contact Australian Embassy in Kyiv before starting a marriage process in Ukraine.
If you have been married before, please make sure that you have the original divorce decree or your spouse death certificate authenticated by apostille at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
According to the Family Code of Ukraine, a citizen of a foreign state can marry a Ukrainian national on the territory of Ukraine on a general basis.
The local Department of Civil Status Registration (known by the acronym "RAGS") can process an application for marriage to a Ukrainian national. Following documents are required:
• passport (to be translated into the Ukrainian language);
• a birth certificate;
• a divorce decree, court judgment on marriage annulment or spouse's death cerificate if any (these documents must be presented only by individuals who have been previously married).
Please be advised that the documents mentioned above must be authenticated by apostille at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and translated into Ukrainian. The validity of these documents (except passport) is six months, with effective date being the date of issuance by the appropriate authority.
