The Embassy of Ukraine in Australia is responsible for developing Ukraine’s relations with Australia, New Zealand and a number of Pacific Island countries, as well as for engagement with key regional and international organisations.
Countries within the Embassy’s Area of Responsibility
The Ambassador of Ukraine to Australia is currently also accredited to New Zealand. With the other Pacific Island countries within its area of responsibility, the Embassy conducts political, economic, humanitarian and other forms of engagement.
Ukraine has established diplomatic relations, inter alia, with Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Samoa and Tuvalu. At the same time, diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the Kingdom of Tonga, Republic of Kiribati, Republic of Naoero, Niue and the Cook Islands have not yet been established. This does not prevent the development of working contacts and practical engagement with these states and self-governing countries on matters of mutual interest.
Regional and International Organisations
The Embassy’s area of responsibility also includes Ukraine’s engagement with:
Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) - the key regional intergovernmental organisation of Pacific countries, headquartered in Suva, Republic of Fiji. Ukraine develops its engagement with the Forum and its member states, including on support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, international law, food and nuclear security, humanitarian issues, and broader cooperation with the countries of Oceania.
Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), headquartered in Hobart, Australia. The Embassy facilitates Ukraine’s engagement with CCAMLR within its competence, including in the context of Ukraine’s participation in Antarctic cooperation.
