Establishment of Diplomatic Relations

Diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Australia were established on 10 January 1992.

Diplomatic relations between Ukraine and New Zealand were established on 3 March 1992.

Establishment of the Embassy

Ukraine’s diplomatic presence in Australia dates back to May 2000, when the Consulate General of Ukraine in Sydney was opened.

On 14 April 2003, the Consulate General was transformed into the Embassy of Ukraine in Australia, based in Canberra.

Since 2007, the Embassy of Ukraine in Australia has also represented Ukraine in New Zealand on a non-resident basis.

Heads of Mission

• since 2022 - Vasyl Myroshnychenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Australia; he presented his credentials on 1 April 2022.
• 2015–2021 - Mykola Kulinich, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Australia.
• 2007–2011 - Valentyn Adomaytis, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Australia and New Zealand.
• 2004–2005 - Oleksandr Mishchenko, the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Australia.

Today, the Embassy of Ukraine in Australia works to advance political dialogue, defence and security cooperation, trade and economic relations, cultural and scientific cooperation, and consular protection of Ukrainian citizens, as well as Ukraine’s relations with New Zealand and the Pacific Island countries.
