In November 2013 a number of events were held to commemorate the 80th anniversary of 1932-1933 Holodomor (Great Famine) in Ukraine.
Particularly, on November 17 in Canberra at the Ukrainian Orthodox Centre the memorial service and the opening of the renewed Monument to the Holodomor victims took took place with representatives of Ukrainian community of the New South Wales (NSW).
23 November in Melbourne there were held the memorial march from Fitzroy Gardens to Federation Square with the participation of foreign Ukrainians and officials as well as a memorial service at Federation Square under the auspices of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organizations (AFUO).
AFUO Chairman and Secretary General of the World Congress of Ukrainians S.Romaniw and Parliamentary Secretary to the NSW Premier and Chairman of Ukrainian NSW Parliament Multicultural Committee M.Fikarra participated in the dedicated events at the Holodomor Memorial on November 23 in Kyiv.
Australian Prime Minister T.Ebbott sent a message to the Ukrainian community on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of 1932-1933 Holodomor in Ukraine.
Also on 21 November in the Parliament of Australia House of Representatives MP F.Ruddock delivered the speech on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Holodomor, and later the Senate passed the relevant resolution.
