14-year-old Ukrainian Tennis star Marta Kostyuk won the Australian Open Junior Girls title this afternoon in Melbourne, Australia defeating 17-year-old top-seeded Swiss player Rebeka Masarova .
Her tenacity, focus and skills were amazing.
The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) congratulates Marta on her great achievement.
Having won the championship, she approached the microphone and shouted Slava Ukraini! The young Ukrainian supporters who were at the game responded with Herojam Slava and burst into singing the Ukrainian National Anthem.
“This is a great achievement for a 14-year-old. She will no doubt be a star in the future. Australian’s Ukrainian community is very proud of her win,” Stefan Romaniw chairman said today after the match.
“The AFUO also thanks those who supported her – a wonderful, enthusiastic group of young people. Many thanks to those who assisted in organising and promoting.” Mr Romaniw said.
