Ukraine's Ambassador, serving as the leader of the Ukrainian delegation, participated in the opening of the annual gathering of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources in Hobart, Tasmania. Meanwhile, Kostiantyn Demianenko, the deputy head of the delegation and acting director of the state-owned Institute for Fisheries and Marine Ecosystem, will oversee discussions within the scientific committee. Ukrainian fishing companies will also be represented in separate discussions. The Antarctic region plays a vital role as a source for krill and toothfish.
This 42nd CCAMLR meeting holds special significance as Ukraine finds itself in the role of Commission Chair for the first time since joining in 1994. Congratulations to Vitalii Tsymbaliuk on presiding over the proceedings involving 26 member states and the EU.
