Australia has consistently supported Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and strongly condemns Russia's full-scale invasion. The country provides political, diplomatic, legal, economic, humanitarian and military support to Ukraine.
The total amount of Australian aid to Ukraine is over $680 million. This includes more than $580 million in military assistance. Australia remains one of the largest contributors of security assistance to Ukraine outside of NATO. The country has imposed sanctions against more than 1400 individuals and legal entities of the Russian Federation, Belarus and Iran.
During 2022-2024, there was a noticeable increase in communications between Ukrainian and Australian officials. Among more than 40 high-level and top-level bilateral events, it is possible to highlight the first visit of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to Ukraine (03.07.2022) and the visit to Australia of the members of the Parliamentary Group for Interparliamentary Cooperation with Australia in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (20-25.03.2023). On April 27, 2024, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Australia Richard Marles has visited Ukraine.
Australia took part in the inaugural Peace Summit (Switzerland, 15-16.06.2024 and signed its Communique.
