On 12 May 2026 Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva held a phone conversation with Rod Hilton, International Adviser to the Prime Minister of Australia.
Ihor Zhovkva thanked Australia for its unwavering support for Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion. Australia has already provided AUD 1.2 billion in assistance to Ukraine, including AUD 1 billion in military aid, making it the largest non-NATO contributor of military support to Ukraine.
The parties discussed further strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia, including sanctions against Russia’s shadow fleet. Australia has already imposed sanctions on 261 vessels as well as more than 1,800 individuals and entities.
The conversation also focused on international accountability for Russia’s aggression, including the establishment of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine and the possibility of Australia joining the relevant international agreement.
The parties further discussed future contacts between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, as well as deepening bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Australia.
