On 23 September 2026, in New York, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese signed the Agreement on Long-Term Support and Cooperation between Ukraine and Australia.
The ten-year Agreement establishes a long-term framework for deeper bilateral cooperation in defence, security, defence industry, technology, cyber security, energy, reconstruction and investment.
Under the Agreement, Australia commits to continuing meaningful security assistance to Ukraine to help it defend itself against Russian aggression and deter future threats.
A particular focus is placed on deeper cooperation between the defence industries of the two countries. Ukraine and Australia will explore opportunities for joint production and projects in air defence, missile technologies, uncrewed systems, maritime capabilities and other critical technologies, including potential projects and production in Ukraine.
Australia will continue military training, capacity-building and the exchange of lessons learned, including through Operation Kudu and cooperation with NATO.
The Agreement also provides for closer cooperation on intelligence and security, countering hybrid threats, protecting critical infrastructure, cyber security and addressing malign state activity.
Ukraine and Australia agreed to deepen cooperation in the energy sector, including support for the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system, renewable energy, nuclear safety and the exchange of relevant expertise.
The Agreement also covers Ukraine’s economic recovery and reconstruction, efforts to attract private investment, expand trade and strengthen capital markets.
Both countries reaffirmed their support for international mechanisms aimed at holding Russia accountable for its aggression, war crimes and other international crimes, including the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine and international compensation mechanisms.
Australia also confirmed its commitment to maintaining sanctions pressure on Russia and working with Ukraine and international partners to strengthen sanctions implementation and counter circumvention.
The signing of the Agreement marks an important step in further strengthening the long-term partnership between Ukraine and Australia and provides a framework for expanding practical cooperation in key areas of security and reconstruction.
