The bilateral legal framework between Ukraine and Australia covers cooperation in the areas of trade and economic relations, finance, energy, security and other fields.
Key bilateral instruments currently in force include:
On 16 October 2025 in Washington, Ukraine and Australia signed the Convention between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of Australia for the Elimination of Double Taxation with respect to Taxes on Income and the Prevention of Tax Evasion and Avoidance, together with an associated Protocol. It is the first bilateral tax treaty between Ukraine and Australia. The Convention is intended to reduce tax barriers, provide greater certainty for taxpayers and support bilateral trade and investment.
On 23 September 2026, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese signed the Agreement on Long-Term Support and Cooperation between Ukraine and Australia. The Agreement provides a framework for long-term cooperation in defence and security, defence industry, sanctions policy, cyber security, Ukraine’s recovery, energy security and other areas.
The 2026 Agreement sets out bilateral political commitments and provides for high-level and senior-level strategic consultations to assess its implementation.
