Australia is Ukraine’s key trading partner in Oceania. Bilateral economic relations cover trade in goods and services, investment, energy, agriculture, technology, defence-related industries and cooperation linked to Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction.
In 2025, two-way trade in goods and services between Australia and Ukraine reached approximately AUD 611 million. Australian exports of goods and services to Ukraine were valued at about AUD 521.7 million, while Australian imports from Ukraine amounted to around AUD 89.3 million.
Trade in goods remains an important component of bilateral economic relations. According to Ukrainian customs statistics, bilateral merchandise trade in 2025 amounted to approximately USD 329 million, including Ukrainian exports of around USD 15.6 million and imports from Australia of around USD 313.1 million. The difference between Australian and Ukrainian statistical figures reflects, among other things, different methodologies and the inclusion of services in Australian data.
Major Ukrainian exports to Australia include electrical and electronic equipment, machinery, vegetable and animal oils, vessels and floating structures, pharmaceuticals, clothing, furniture and selected food products. Australian exports to Ukraine include mineral fuels, vehicles, machinery, optical and medical equipment, and other industrial goods.
Since July 2022, Australia has provided duty-free access for Ukrainian imports as part of its support for Ukraine’s economy. This measure has been extended until 3 July 2028, helping Ukrainian producers maintain access to the Australian market during Russia’s full-scale invasion.
An important step in strengthening bilateral economic relations was the signing on 16 October 2025 of the first Australia–Ukraine Tax Treaty, aimed at eliminating double taxation, reducing tax barriers and creating greater certainty for businesses and investors operating between the two countries.
The Agreement on Long-Term Support and Cooperation between Ukraine and Australia, signed in September 2026, also provides for deeper economic cooperation. The two countries agreed to promote Ukraine’s economic resilience and recovery, facilitate private investment in reconstruction and modernisation projects, and further strengthen and liberalise bilateral trade.
Priority areas for further economic cooperation include:
