Embassy representatives attended a book launch fundraiser featuring Canberra authors Christopher Nailer and Nina Kavunenko, raising funds to support Ukraine.
On 11 October 2026, Pavlo Troian, First Secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in Australia, and Embassy intern Nazarii Lialiuk attended a book launch fundraiser for Ukraine at the White Eagle Polish Club in Canberra.
The event featured presentations and readings by Canberra authors Christopher Nailer and Nina Kavunenko. Christopher’s “The Kyiv Poems” brings together 66 poems he sent to a friend in Kyiv following Russia’s full-scale invasion. Nina’s “A Good Cossack” tells the story of her father, Oleh Kavunenko, who arrived in Australia as a post-war refugee and settled in Canberra.
Proceeds from sales of “A Good Cossack” went towards assistance for Ukraine, while copies of “The Kyiv Poems” were offered in return for donations to Ukraine aid appeals.
The Embassy sincerely thanks both authors for their solidarity, for sharing Ukrainian stories, and for turning their words into practical support. We also thank the White Eagle Polish Club and everyone who took part.
