Representatives from the First Lady’s Foundation visited Melbourne on 14-15 February and Sydney on 22-23 February. A number of meetings have been arranged with Australian charities, corporates and high-net-worth individuals in an effort to find support for a program focused on Ukraine’s growing orphan crisis caused by daily Russian missile attacks.
During their visit to Sydney, they held productive meetings with the Goodman Foundation, Atlassian Foundation, Minderoo Foundation, and others to discuss the First Lady's "Room for Childhood" – an initiative aiming to provide housing for children who became orphans due to Russia's missile strikes on Ukraine.
Representatives of the Olena Zelenska Foundation met with: Matthew Rose, CEO of Minderoo Foundation - Generation One, Kevin McCann, Chairman of Telix, Alex Vynokur, CEO of Beta Shares, Paul Wilton, Chairman of Wheelton Group, Ian Carson, Executive Chairman of Tanarra, Paul Guerra, CEO of Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vedran Drukalic, Gandel Foundation, Chris Garnaut, Founder and CEO of Fawkner Properties and Garnaut Private Wealth, Jonathan Srikanthan, Director of the Atlassian Foundation, Global Engagement Program and Kris Ashpole, CEO of Goodman Foundation.
During the meetings, the Foundation's team presented some of their recent projects. One of the projects they emphasised was the initiative to build houses, namely family-style orphanages for displaced individuals due to the ongoing hostility.
Barrier-free buildings have been designed, which are equipped with a bomb shelter, a heat pump, and high-quality insulation, to cater for the living conditions in Ukraine.
The Olena Zelenska Foundation is now collaborating with organisations from across the world to guarantee that Ukrainian children have a secure and happy childhood.
